WHO WE ARE

BUIG (Bidgroep van Uniondale Interkerklike Gemeenskap)¹ is a faith-basednon-denominational, non-political, non-racial, non-profit organization².

Our Mission is to enable the various churches³ to collectively find solutions to major social problems in Uniondale, particularly for the school-going youth.

We work in the heart of our local community to generate real and lasting change.

We rely on donations of money, facilities, materials and people's own time to make our projects succeed.

Uniondale has a total of 18 churches, 9 of which have members of up to 200 and a building. The rest are house churches. Collectively, the churches are able to reach and mobilise 70% of households.
South Africa’s history of segregation included segregation of churches. The BUIG organisation comprises seven co-operating churches, embracing reconciliation, integration, and ecumenical co-operation. It acts as an effective conduit towards a common goal.

WHAT WE DO

We bring about co-operation amongst the various churches and congregations in the Uniondale area, in order to enable the church to become more active in collectively seeking solutions to major social problems.

The seven participating churches pool resources, such as use of buildings, skills, knowledge, counselling, time of pastors and involvement of the congregation.

We engage local young people in leadership and development activities and programmes.

Although we are a Christian organisation, we welcome all young people. We try to encourage young people to have “good clean fun”, while promoting good morals, self discipline and a desire for self-improvement.


	*BACKGROUND* As Uniondale is a small remote town, there is very little entertainment or organised social activity, particularly for young people. This leaves a vacuum which is all too often filled by alcohol abuse and petty crime. READ MORE ..


	*ACTIVITIES* We promote leadership, discipline, healthy lifestyle, good morals. Most activities provide an element of AIDS and HIV awareness.Activities include counselling, Friday night coffee bar, leadership courses, and handcrafts. READ MORE ..
